What are Egyptian Hieroglyphics?

Egyptian hieroglyphics became one of the earliest writing systems in the world. The earliest hieroglyphs are found to originate from the Early Bronze Age several centuries before the period of Egyptian history.

The word hieroglyphics is Greek not Egyptian. It means holy (hiero) writings (glyphics). Hieroglyphics facilitated the acceleration of human civilization together with other ancient writing systems. These include the ancient Egyptian Hieratic script and ancient Sumerian.

The names of the Egyptian Pharaohs were written in hieroglyphics in their tombs. The Egyptians believed that if someone’s name was remembered then he or she would survive in the afterlife.

Origin & Evolution of Egyptian Hieroglyphics

An earlier Sumerian script may have influenced the origin of Egyptian hieroglyphics. It is believed that cultural diffusion played a role where the concept of using writing and symbols to represent language was shared between the two cultures.

Ancient Egypt advanced rapidly in technology and culture during the Naqada III era (33rd – 31st centuries BCE). This is also when Ancient Egypt and Sumeria freely traded with each other.

Egyptian hieroglyphics evolved in the time between the Ancient Kingdom of Egypt and the Egyptian Empire (New Kingdom). Egyptian Hieroglyphics enjoyed widespread use in Egypt for over 2000 years. Around 800 hieroglyphics were in use in the years between ancient Egypt’s Old Kingdom and their New Kingdom.

Demotic, Cyrillic, and Hieratic glyphs appeared during the Late Period of ancient Egypt (600-300 BCE). Their simplicity made them ideal for writing on papyrus and the use of hieroglyphics became exclusive to monuments including tombs and temples.

The Early Greeks and Romans believed that understanding hieroglyphics would give them mystical and magical knowledge. The use of hieroglyphics in ancient Egypt persisted during the Greco-Roman era when the number of hieroglyphics had risen to 5,000.

Monumental usage of Egyptian Hieroglyphics finally ended in Egypt in the year 391. This is when pagan temples were banned in Egypt by Emperor Theodosius I.

The last documented authentic hieroglyphic writing is dated to have been written in 394. Egyptian Hieroglyphics remained a mystery for many centuries after this.

Egyptian hieroglyphics influenced all of the alphabets now used in modern communication. Egyptian hieroglyphics inspired the creation of the alphabet upon which the Latin alphabet was formed. Hieroglyphics also brought forth Demotic writing and Cursive hieroglyphs which were popular during the Pharaonic period of ancient Egypt.

Decoding Egyptian Hieroglyphics

Several attempts were made to decipher Egyptian Hieroglyphics with partial success. Horapollo wrote The Hieroglyphica in the 5th century which accurately interpreted about 200 symbols. In 1643 Athanasius Kircher analysed Egyptian hieroglyphics in his famous “Lingua Aegyptiaca Restituta”.

The discovery of The Rosetta Stone in the late 18th century facilitated the deciphering of Egyptian hieroglyphics. The Rosetta Stone is a large granodiorite rock weighing 1680 pounds and is currently exhibited at the British Museum. It bears the inscription of a royal decree written in Egyptian hieroglyphics, demotic script, and ancient Greek script.

In 1822 Jean-Francois Champollion used the newly discovered Rosetta Stone fragment to accurately decipher Egyptian hieroglyphics. He understood Coptic he was able to translate the meanings of the ancient Egyptian words to establish an entire list of Egyptian symbols with their Greek equivalents.

Champollion was the first Egyptologist to realize that the symbols were not only alphabetic but syllabic. In some cases they depicted the meaning of the word itself (determinative).

Champollion characterised hieroglyphics into three distinct glyph types. These are known as determinatives, phonetics, and logographs. The Ancient Greek text at the bottom was used to decode the other languages.

Older and better preserved multilingual steles were discovered soon after The Rosetta Stone. Egyptologists used these older steles to discern the meaning of the missing fragments of The Rosetta Stone.

How to Read Hieroglyphics

The Egyptians saw Hieroglyphs as the words of God and a number of techniques were employed to convey meaning. The pictorial symbols represent alphabetical, numerical and syllabic sounds together with images which clarify meaning. There are also depictions of actual objects which are the sound or spoken word of what they represent.

Hieroglyphs are written in rows or columns. They can be read from left to right or from right to left. You can distinguish the direction that the text can be read as the human or animal figures always face towards the beginning of the line. Also, the upper symbols are read before the lower.

Most of the pictures stand for the object they represent usually as sounds. For example, the owl stands for the sound “m” and the Egyptian symbol for a mouth is normally read as the sound “r”. Egyptologists devised a simplified translation of our letters and Egyptian hieroglyphs.

Hieroglyphics are pictures or glyphs of objects used in daily life, living creatures, or symbols. Some of these are easier to identify than others which can be confusing to understand.

There are four categories of Hieroglyphic signs:

  • Single sounds are represented by alphabetic signs. We may never know how the words were formed because Egyptians took most of the vowels for granted.
  • Combine two or three consonants to create syllabic signs.
  • The pictures of objects used as words for those objects are known as word-signs. An upright stroke is used after the sign to distinguish that the word is complete in one sign.
  • A determinative is a picture of an object which helps the reader. For example, an image of a tied up and sealed roll of papyrus was added to show that the meaning of the word could be expressed in writing but not with pictures.

Hieroglyphic Numbers

The Ancient Egyptians also created hieroglyphics for numbers. This shows that they had an advanced knowledge of mathematics and science. They used a decimal system using seven different symbols.

There are 84 different calculations in the Rhind mathematical papyrus. These help with various aspects of Egyptian life including pyramid building and calculating the cost of food.

The ancient Egyptians used the pieces of the eye of Horus to describe fractions. In this visceral story, the god Seth gouged out the eye of his brother Horus and tore it to pieces. Then Thoth put the pieces back together and healed Horus’ eye.

There are numerous other examples of Egyptian hieroglyphics used to illustrate the myths and legends surrounding pharaohs, Egyptian deities, tombs and temples.

Spirit Food – Walnut

Spirit Food - Walnut - Star Magic HealingORIGIN

The oldest walnut remains were discovered in Iraq, and they are believed to be from 50,000 B.C. Walnuts are the oldest tree food known to man. Early history indicates that English walnuts came from ancient Persia, where they were reserved for royalty. The Greeks and Romans were fond of the walnut, and they were considered food for Gods by the early Romans. Walnuts are known as juglans, in fact, the word juglans goes back to “jovis glans” or “nut of Jupiter.”.

Black Walnut, in particular, is known for its powerful benefits for the body, mind and spirit and has been used for its medicinal properties as far as time goes back.

Native Americans and early settlers used it for food, dyes, ink, medicine, fence posts, gun stocks, and furniture.

CHAKRA: THIRD EYE

PHYSICAL BENEFITS

Walnuts are high in plant compounds called polyphenols, which are particularly high in the papery skin of walnuts.

The polyphenols in walnuts may reduce your risk of certain cancers, including breast, prostate and colorectal cancers.

Brain scans showed that the people who ate walnuts had increased activation in a region of the brain that helped them resist highly tempting foods, such as cake, sweets and french fries.

The shell of a walnut looks like a tiny brain, walnuts are high in melatonin. Melatonin is needed for the regulation of sleep and is secreted by the pituitary gland.

Walnuts are significantly higher in omega-3 fat than any other nut.
These Omega-3 fatty acids are known as alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). ALA is an essential fat, meaning you have to get it from your diet.

The hull of the black walnut is used to heal inflamed or damaged intestinal tissue. It supports a healthy environment in the digestive system and feeds the healthy bacteria which increases the absorption of nutrients from food and ensures the right elimination of food waste. Black walnut helps those with constipation and diarrhoea.

Black walnuts have long been recognised as a potent anti-parasitic superfood.
It has been known to kill off pinworms, tapeworms, hookworms and other undesirable intestinal parasites.

Walnuts are packed with Vitamin E, vitamin E works wonders for the skin. It works for acne and fungal infections such as ringworm and athletes foot.

The compounds found in black walnut are said to be antiviral, meaning they can be very useful in destroying a virus.

SPIRITUAL BENEFITS

Just as walnut cleanses and heals the body physically, it also has a very strong “expelling” quality spiritually. Walnut’s same medicinal qualities expel parasites from the body. Not only physical parasites but spiritual parasites can be expelled with the help of the walnut tree.

As well as taking walnut internally to assist you through an expelling process such as depression or sadness, plant walnuts around the house to protect and cleanse your sacred space from lower vibrational energies.

Walnut teaches you the importance of gratitude. Throughout history, people would beat the walnut tree to make them grow better. The problem with over-harvesting the walnut in this way brings an important lesson of gratitude. The walnut reminds us of the important lesson of honouring the earth, harvesting that which is offered. Treat the earth and your body with kindness, respect, and care. Everything you need comes in time so have patience and respect and trust the process leading up to the fruits of your labour. Be in gratitude when they arrive, knowing they are meant for you at that time and in that place.

Egyptian Mystery Schools

For over 4,000 years, the ancient Egyptian mystery schools have been seen as the ultimate in secret wisdom and knowledge. Many believe that the teachings of the Egyptian mystery schools originated from Atlantis from Thoth, from the God Osiris, or/and from the stars.

Ancient Egypt was the cradle for all the ancient mysteries. The Ancient Egyptian mystery schools originated in Memphis near the Great Pyramid. The secret teachings originated from Atlantis and were shared with the ancient Egyptians. The influence of these sacred rites and secret doctrines has influenced other nations across the world.

The Egyptian mystery schools contain knowledge that originates from ancient times. The Pyramid Texts of Egypt which were written about 5000 years ago and contain magical formulas and spells. These are quoted as prayers from a far more ancient period.

In the time of Rameses, Egypt shone as a beacon light of civilization throughout the known world. Spiritual seekers of the divine sciences came from the distant shores of Asia Minor and Greece. They arrived to study in the sanctuaries with magi and hierophants with whom who they believed could give them the secrets of immortality.

Teachings of the Egyptian Mystery Schools

New initiates of the mystery schools already knew that they must undertake rigorous disciplined study plus training of body, soul, and spirit.

They heard from former initiates that to attain mastery of the mysteries that they would undergo a complete restructuring of their physical, emotional, mental and spiritual being.

The initiates experience timeless secret teachings that are past down to them via word of mouth by priests and priestesses, other initiates, and also by royalty.

Teachings are also encrypted into temples, concealed and enshrined behind a veil of hieroglyphs, allegory and symbolism. Each temple’s harmonic construction transmits its own unique frequency.

Only through development of one’s faculties of will, intuition, and reason to an extraordinary degree could one ever gain access to the hidden forces in the universe.

Also, through complete mastery of body, soul, and spirit could one see beyond death and perceive the pathways to be taken in the afterlife. Only when one has acquired divine freedom could he or she become a seer and a magician.

For centuries the pharaohs were also pupils of the magician priests (hierophants) who presided over the temples and cults of Isis and Osiris. Each pharaoh received his initiation name from the temple. Priests were also honoured with the roles of counsellors and advisors to the throne.

Ancient Greeks & Hebrews

The Greek philosophers Pythagoras, Aristotle, and Plato came across the Nile to be initiated in the sacred teachings and practices of the Egyptian Mystery Schools.

The Kabbalah of the Ancient Hebrews was channelled and transmitted by Moses following initiation in the mysteries of ancient Egypt and ancient Persia. In the Bible, in Acts 7:22 it says that Moses is learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and is mighty in words and deeds.

Pythagoras spent 22 years in the temples of Egypt with the powerful Egyptian Magi as an initiate in the ancient mysteries. He learned the secret doctrine of numbers, the heliocentric system of the universe, music, astrology, astronomy, mathematics, and geometry.

It is even thought that Jesus was a student of the Ancient Egypt Mystery Schools. This is believed as it wasn’t until he came back from Egypt that he could perform miracles.

Egyptian god Thoth with hieroglyphic scroll - Star Magic Healing

Hermes-Toth

The sacred doctrines were created or transmitted by Toth (Thoth) in ancient Egypt. He is also known as Hermes to the Greeks and Mercury to the Romans. These doctrines and teachings were identical among the ancient Egyptians, Hebrews, Hindus and other ancient civilisations.

Thoth is the Egyptian god of wisdom, learning and communications. He is the scribe of the gods and authored works of science, philosophy, religion, wisdom and magic. He is believed to have invented language, the alphabet and hieroglyphs.

Hermes was credited with tens of thousands of highly esteemed writings from Egypt and Greece. Hermes Trismegistus wrote the Emerald Tablet and the Corpus Hermeticum. Hermes Trismegistus is the name for both Thoth and Hermes (both gods of writing and magic).

Emerald Tablet with ancient writing - Star Magic Healing

Hermes-Toth designates a man, a caste, and a god at the same time. As a man he is the creator and first initiator of a powerful system of magic. As a caste he represents the priesthood and the repository of ancient wisdom.

The 7 Hermetic Laws that are shared in the Corpus Hermetic have been found in part in the in the Emerald Tablets of Thoth and also at the Nag Hammadhi library in 4th century Egypt.

Osiris & Freemasonry

From Egypt the ancient mysteries were originally transmitted to Persia by Osiris, also known as Dionysius, and then as Bacchus in Greece.

Isis is symbolically the mother of all mysteries. She is the church and the symbol of the Altantean mystery school and the institution of freemasonry.

Horus represents the body of illuminated initiates who were born again from the womb of Isis or out of the mystery school.

Osiris represents the secret doctrine when it was complete before knowledge was lost.  The phallus of Osiris represents the lost word of the Kabballah and the Luciferian philosophy of freemasonry. It also represents that the divine power of Osiris is restored through the regeneration of the man himself and the processes of his initiation. The ‘lost word’ is a word that acts like a key unlocking the mystic plan which will restore and activate the full hermetic system.

Freemasonry is one of many modern mystery schools that owe their very existence to the knowledge and wisdom of the ancient Egyptian Mystery schools.

Native American Folklore

There is something truly miraculous about Native American Folklore. These oral traditions always leave us valuable knowledge and wisdom. American Indian creation stories explain through storytelling how the world came into existence, and they feature characters that are usually animals, powerful energies, or human beings.

American Indian folklore consists of creation myths which have been orally narrated by the people to their upcoming generations. These stories differ from tribal nation to nation. The stories reflect the beliefs of the Native Americans about the existence and creation of the world.

Native American folklore is deeply rooted in nature. The myths and stories are rich with the natural symbolism of the seasons, the elements, plants and animals, and of the cosmos. Different tribes across North America share many myths which they have woven into unique stories.

In Native American Folklore there is a universal and omniscient Great Spirit. The tribes hear the Great Spirit in every wind, see him in every cloud, and adore him in every place that inspires awe. Native Americans share a connection to the Earth and its landscapes as well as a belief in other worlds underground and across space and time. Their tales include diverse creation narratives, visits to other realities, and collective memories of ancient ancestors.

There is a close and symbiotic relationship between human beings and animals in Native American Folklore. Common themes are shapeshifting between animal and human forms, and the marriage between people and different species.

Most Native North American folklore carries important messages and wisdom. Some stories use light-hearted humour to entertain and engage the audience. There tales explore common themes including love and friendship, growing up and becoming a warrior, domestic conflict, illness and death.

Native American World-View

All tribes have a strong sense of a single creative life-force that flows through everything. This includes every human, animal, tree and grain of sand. From this universal life-force emanates all individual spirits and personifications of the divine.

Animals play a major role played in Native American folklore. Animals often speak to humans and assist them. Most tribes connect with power animals and animal spirits. They also see individual wolves, for example, as expressions or extensions of a spiritual archetype and power.

Native Americans see the world as having four directions (north, east, south and west). From these come the four winds. Native American folklore explores the powers ascribed to the four directions. These are often represented by particular colours or by animals. The Four Directions have to be in balance for all to be well with the world. A fifth direction may be invoked where four brothers represent the outer directions and their sister the centre.

White Buffalo Calf Woman

The Lakota legend of the White Buffalo Calf Woman is over 2,000 years old. The story starts when the Lakota chief sent out two scouts to hunt for food. While the young men travelled they approached a beautiful young woman dressed in white buck skin with dark hair, eyes, and skin.

One of the scouts was possessed by lust and approached her. He wanted the woman as a wife and he ignored his comrade’s warning that she was a holy woman. As he embraced the woman, a white cloud enveloped them both to reveal only the mysterious woman and a pile of bones. The holy woman looked into the second scout’s heart and saw his intentions as pure. She spoke in Lakota to him that he would come to no harm and he promised to do what she instructed. He returned to his tribe and they prepared a feast for her arrival.

Buffalo Calf Woman taught the Lakota seven sacred ceremonies and gave them the sacred ceremonial pipe. She also taught them how to revere nature and pray correctly. The pipe is extremely important in Lakota ritual. It is the symbolic means of making an exchange between humanity and the spirit world. Hence when smoked it is always offered to the Four Directions. The smoke is regarded as rising up to the spirit world.

The Lakota know her as a wise and magical woman who will reunite all people on earth. They feel that her return will also restore humanity’s balance with nature.

Other Stories from Native American Tribes

Native American myths include stories of creation and heroic journeys. They are particularly rich in stories about tricksters including Coyote and Iktomi is a spider-trickster spirit in Lakota mythology. The trickster is used to show the qualities of early human cultural and psychological development of civilisation that cause problems. He is an expression of the least developed stage of life which is dominated by the physical desires of lust, greed, and manipulation.

An Iroquois tale tells of Tepeu and Gucumatz, who sat together and created many different things. These included the earth, the stars, and the oceans. Later they were helped by Coyote, Crow, and a few other creatures to create four two-legged beings who became the ancestors of the Iroquois people.

In a Sioux tale, a new world was created by a creator who was displeased with the people in the old one. He sang many songs to bring rain and catastrophic floods until all but Kangi the crow survived. Kangi pleaded with the Great Spirit to make him a new place to rest. So the creator created new species, including Turtle, who brought mud from under the sea to create the land. From his huge pipe bag, the creator brought out the land animals and used the mud to create the shapes of men and women.

An old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. The battle is between two wolves inside us all. One is Evil. The other is good. The grandson then asked the question ‘’which wolf wins?’’ The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.” Both wolves will always be there and this battle applies to our emotions, behaviour, habits, and every other aspect of our life.

Spirit Food – Pomegranate

ORIGIN

The pomegranate is native to locations from Iran to the Himalayas in India. It is widely cultivated throughout India, the Meditteranean, southeast Asia, Malaya, the East Indies and tropical Africa.

The pomegranate can be seen as a symbol of humanity’s central beliefs and ideals, namely, life and death, rebirth and eternal life, fertility and marriage, and abundance throughout virtually every religion in history.

It was used in religious paintings by Botticelli and da Vinci, where it is seen in the hands of the Virgin Mary or the baby Jesus. It’s depicted bursting open, representing the expansion of life. Simultaneously it signifies Jesus’ death and suffering as well as his resurrection and eternal life.

In Judaism, pomegranates were the fruits that were brought to Moses to demonstrate the fertility of the promised land.

The pomegranate was associated with the Aegean Triple Goddess, who evolved into the Greek goddess Hera, she is portrayed with a sceptre in one hand and offering a pomegranate in the other as an emblem of fertile blood and marriage.

The Ancient Egyptians

The ancient Egyptian civilisation developed 5,000 years ago and lasted for around 3,000 years. Ancient Egypt has left a lasting legacy in archaeology, culture, science, and technology.

The ancient Egyptians were ruled by kings and queens called pharaohs. These pharaohs built huge pyramids, temples, and other impressive monuments. They also conquered other lands.

Cats were considered to be a sacred animal by the Ancient Egyptian civilisation. It’s thought that most families kept a cat as a pet, which they believed would bring the household good luck.

The Nile River

The civilization of Ancient Egypt was located along the Nile River in northeast Africa. The river was an important source of water in a hot and dry desert landscape. Only about 2.5cm of rain falls throughout Egypt each year. The fertile soil required for growing food each year was provided by great floods.

Great Egyptian cities grew up along the Nile as the Egyptian people became experts in irrigation. They used the water from the Nile to grow rich and profitable crops like wheat, barley, fruit and vegetables. The Nile also provided them with food, soil, water and transportation.

Culture & Technology

Ancient Egypt was rich in culture including government, religion, arts, and writing. The government and their Pagan religion were tied together. The leader of the government was the Pharaoh who was also their religious leader.

The ancient Egyptians were experts at farming, construction, and invention. They invented a solar calendar and Egyptian alphabet which contained over 700 hieroglyphs. The Ancient Egyptian civilisation also invented lots of things we still use today such as paper, pens, locks and keys and toothpaste. They also created new forms of literature, a system of mathematics, and a practical and effective medicine technology.

The ancient Egyptians also created various mystery schools. These are timeless secret teachings shared through word of mouth by priests, priestesses, initiates and royalty. Their meaning and significance is often encrypted into temples and artefacts, and concealed and locked within a veil of hieroglyphs and symbolism.

Spiritual Beliefs

The ancient Egyptians worshiped over 2,000 deities. They created gods and goddesses for just about every aspect of their lives. The most popular ones included Isis, Horus, Ra, Osiris, Ma’at, Bast, Hathor, Geb, and Thoth. Each deity had different responsibilities and needed to be worshipped so that life could be kept in balance.

The ancient Egyptians also believed in a never-ending afterlife. They spent much time planning for their death because they thought the afterlife was more important than their life on Earth.

The Egyptians believed that every person is composed of physical and spiritual components. As well as the body, each person had a shadow, a ba (personality or soul), a ka (life-force), and a name. Also the heart, rather than the brain, was considered the seat of thoughts and emotions. After death the spiritual aspects were released from the body and could move at will but they required the physical remains, or a statue, as a permanent home.

The ancient Egyptians preserved the bodies of important people through mummification. They built special tombs to be buried in, which they filled with all their favourite things. Some pharaohs built their tombs in the shape of giant pyramids. They believed that by preserving a dead person’s body their soul would live on in the afterlife forever.

Pyramids & Sphinxes

Ancient Egyptian pyramids were built as tombs for pharaohs and their families. So far around 130 pyramids have been discovered in Egypt. The largest Egyptian pyramid is the Pyramid of Khufu at Giza.

The shape of a pyramid represents the primordial Earth as well as capturing and focussing the descending rays of the sun. Most pyramids were faced with polished, highly reflective white limestone, in order to give them a brilliant appearance when viewed from a distance.

The ancient Egyptians saw the dark night sky between certain stars as the physical portal into the heavens. One of the narrow shafts extending from the main burial chamber through the entire body of the Great Pyramid points directly towards the centre of this part of the sky. Thus the pyramid may magically launch the deceased pharaoh’s soul directly into the abode of the gods.

A Sphinx is a mythological creature with the body of a lion and the head of a person such as a god or Pharaoh. The Egyptians built sphinx statues to guard important areas such as tombs and temples.

The most famous Sphinx is the Great Sphinx of Giza. It is one of the largest and oldest statues in the world. The Great Sphinx faces the sunrise and guards the pyramid tombs of Giza. Some archaeologists believe that it was carved around 2500 BC and the Sphinx’s head is the likeness of the Pharaoh Khafra.

What is Shamanism?

Shamanism is a natural spiritual path that leads to a direct revelation and connection with creation. Shamanic practice gives you the tools to enter the spirit world yourself and discover your own power. Shamanism has been practised by many ancient civilisations and countless native traditions.

Shamanism crosses cultural boundaries and is practiced in every continent of the world. Historically, there has been little physical contact between shamans in many parts of the world. Yet researchers have repeatedly discovered that the practices of shamanism are very similar everywhere.

Shamanism has no scriptures or dogma. It does not require you to worship God or answer to any outside authority. Shamanism is concerned with what goes on beneath the surface of all things. It is about exploring the natural flow of creation, your inner nature and your behaviour.

Shamanism is about becoming a true human and realising your full potential on planet earth. Shamanism allows you to develop a relationship with the spiritual forces in your life and to develop trust in the wisdom, insight, and healing energy you receive.

Who is a Shaman?

The word ‘shaman’ is an Evenki word from Siberia. A shaman is one who sees or penetrates to the source of anything and everything. The shamanic journey is the art of using rhythm and intention to connect with the spiritual dimension of reality through entering altered states of consciousness.

Shamans learn from nature as their great teacher. They are concerned with the natural flow of life and being respectful towards Mother Nature and humanity.

Shamans remember and use powerful techniques that transcend everyday laws of nature. A shaman enters the field of universal love and oneness to heal, psychically divine, receive ancient spiritual knowledge, and transcend physical limitations.

There are many names for shamans across the world. These include sorcerer, healer, curandero, medicine man/woman, and shamanic priest. Shamans inherit their role in many ways and both men and women function as shamans for their communities.

It often takes many years of rigorous apprenticeship to become a shaman. There are many tests and initiations along the way. Not all who begin their training succeed at becoming a shaman and some may die in the process.

Many shamans are high functioning people who are highly respected by their communities. They often work in the capacity of advisors, consultants, healers and forecasters. Shamans enter altered states to perform a variety of functions including healing, leading ceremonies, creating art, dancing, and chanting.

Shamans know where to access power and information from nature. Shamans interact with plants, animals, the elements, and the spirit world. They intuitively divine ‘power spots’ and know where to find helpful healing herbs. Shamans are excellent problem solvers, diagnosticians, psychologists, storytellers, healers and teachers.

Shamans are essential for our society and culture. Humanity may not have survived without the presence of shamans who had many skills that were critical for the survival of their tribes and communities. Shamans also predict the weather and knew how to combine plants for medicines and psychedelic journeying.

Shamanic Practitioners

Shamans of different areas of the world travel extensively to share their knowledge with people who live in urban areas. Many talented people are adopting the shamanic nature-based world view.  Some have learned a vast amount about healing, deeply connecting with nature, and shamanic ritual practices.

Shamanic practitioners are skilled healers and teachers from non-indigenous populations. Some shamanic practitioners, such as Carlos Castaneda and Michael Harner, have travelled to remote locations in order to research, live, and apprentice with master shamans.

Shamanism is something you feel drawn to or have a heartfelt connection with. It is about the power to be you and to live the way you would like to live and feel connected to something greater than yourself.

Many natural items are commonly used in shamanic practices. These include feathers and wings to direct energy, smudge sticks for cleansing the aura, and pipes for ceremonial smoking. Also, drums are used to journey and dance, jewellery and stones are programmed for specific purposes, and dream catchers are hung above the head for filtering and remembering dreams.

Shamanic Ceremonies

Many ceremonies have existed for generations and are performed repeatedly. This invites the power and intention of previous ceremonies to return.

You evolve at all levels of your being by engaging in authentic shamanic practices. Many ceremonies of the Native Americans can help you to improve yourself. If you pray in a ceremony to be more courageous then this may draw in situations to you that will force you to overcome fear and be more courageous.

You can follow traditional ceremonies or create your own. In either case it is important to have positive focus and intention before, during, and after the ceremony. Using ceremony can bring opportunities for change and ceremony will signal to the spirit world that you are ready for something new.

During a ceremony it is wise to focus on three or fewer issues in your life. Prayers are often answered in unexpected ways. In a sweat lodge you may pray for 12 different things then a signal is sent to the universe for 12 impactful events to manifest for your learning and development. This can lead to a very intense and often painful learning process.

Many ancient ceremonies were given to shamans in visions. Their visions often contained precise details of how to perform every aspect of a particular ceremony. A ceremony performed exactly as described by spirit carries much power and blessings for the people, plants, animals and the land.

Shamanism is as natural and as magical as you believe it to be. Your natural and artificial environments are a big reflection of who you are. All the information you need is around you. Look within and see that your inner experience reflects your outer experience.
