Hey beautiful soul.
So, I wanted to drop in and touch upon a very important subject, and it’s to do with identity and willpower.
Most people on this planet are trying to kind of white knuckle their way through this human experience.
People talk about willpower. People talk about discipline.
Willpower is great and it’s very important, but it only carries you so far.
Discipline is the next step after willpower.
And discipline is mission critical.
But you can forge discipline into a whole other level.
That level is called identity.
You see, if I wake up in the morning and I’m planning on going to the gym, and I wake up and I’m tired, there’s the thought in your head, “Why don’t you just stay in bed? Why don’t you go an hour later?”
Or someone contacts you and there’s some kind of drama in your business and you decide to deal with that instead of doing what you were going to do.
Willpower, a lot of the time, will keep you going to the gym. But willpower is a finite resource.
And there are times when you can get tired. Your energy levels can drop slightly, and willpower just doesn’t cut the mustard.
Discipline, ninety percent of the time, will cut the mustard and it will get you to the gym.
But identity is a whole other level.
When the gym becomes part of your identity, it’s impossible for you not to go because the thought of you not turning up at the gym and doing what you set out to do, to challenge yourself, your fitness, your health, your cardio, your weights, your boxing, whatever it is, it’s like a blade to the chest.
It’s like you’re dishonouring yourself at the highest level. You decided to show up and you didn’t.
That’s terrible in my eyes. That’s absolutely terrible.
And so if you carry the identity and it becomes ingrained and woven into your soul, your light body, your spirit body, your higher self, you can’t strip your higher self out of your multidimensional architecture.
You can’t take your light body out from your space.
You can’t rip your heart out of your physical body and still walk around.
Just like you can’t rip your identity out from yourself, from who and what you are at the core of your being.
This giant, multidimensional being having a human experience that knows who they are deep inside themselves.
They know what they have to do in their business.
They know what they have to do for their personal health and fitness goals.
They know what they have to do in their relationships.
They know what they have to do for their nutrition.
They know what they have to do from the minute they wake up till the moment they drop off and go to sleep in the evening.
And that identity is everything because when it’s part of your identity, you just show up.
It doesn’t matter if your arm’s hanging off.
It doesn’t matter if you wake up and you’ve had thirty minutes’ sleep because you’ve just got off a flight from London to Brazil.
You travelled from the airport to your hotel. It’s five in the morning. You get a few Zs.
You wake up at six and you get amongst it.
You get back into your routine, back into your pattern.
A weak person will think, “You know what? I’ve just got off a flight. I’m shattered. My body clocks all messed up, so let me just get a few hours’ sleep. I’ll wake up at ten or eleven.”
No. You’ve just screwed up your whole day.
And that day is going to tip into the next day because once you’re out of your routine, it’s harder to get back into it.
So, you make the decision.
You show up because that’s what you do.
This is the difference between someone that makes it and someone that doesn’t.
It’s all down to identity.
Discipline is a beautiful stepping stone to lock that identity in place.
Without discipline, you’re screwed.
Willpower, beautiful. At certain points it’s going to carry you.
But your identity is what you are, who you are, how you show up.
You don’t walk out the front door in the morning and leave your left foot behind and your right arm.
You take them with you because they’re a part of you, right?
Well, that’s your identity.
It’s just like your left foot and your right arm, your left eyeball, your nose.
You don’t walk out of the door in the morning and leave your nose or your eyeball behind.
You take everything with you because it’s a part of who and what you are.
And that’s how your identity has to be.
You know what you have to do to show up in this life, to be the formidable being that you came to planet Earth to be.
And so, you just do it.
You don’t think about it.
You don’t negotiate with yourself.
You just carry this identity.
And this identity is your baseline.
Now, your identity can change.
But if your identity changes, it’s only because you’re raising your standards.
It’s not because your standards are shrinking, depleting.
It’s not because you’re going inwards.
It’s because you’re expanding and not contracting.
A Jedi, a sovereign being, a successful human just expands.
Now, I’m not saying that you never rest.
Yeah, you might need to take a little bit of time out, but that time out is part of the plan. That respite is part of the rejuvenation and restoration process.
After the gym, after a three-day workshop where you’ve given your heart and your soul, you take a day to replenish and build your energy levels back up again.
It’s not because you’re being lazy, it’s because you want to be full throttle.
So, you take a bit of time for yourself, replenish your nervous system, boost your energy back up, and boom, you’re back in again.
High standards. Back in the gym, back in the business, back in the relationships, back in wherever it is that you need to show up for you.
Not for anyone else, but for you.
Because it’s your mission. It’s your reality. It’s your life.
And you know what you have to do to accomplish the goals and the tasks that you set out to do.
It’s on you.
And in my reality, it’s on me.
And no one’s coming to save me or do it for me.
And no one’s coming to save you or do it for you.
It’s on you.
No ifs, buts, or maybes. Plain and simple.
You either show up or you don’t.
When something that you have to do becomes a part of who you are, the conversation, the negotiation, is already over before it’s even started.
A lot of people will negotiate with themselves for five minutes, ten minutes, fifteen minutes, twenty minutes, half a day, three days, a week, a month, and they never take action.
But when it’s ingrained into your identity, you never even entertain the conversation.
Even if that little voice inside your head tries to spark the debate, you just shut it down.
You get your hosepipe out, your water cannon, and you extinguish that fire.
Boom.
It’s gone.
Easy, peasy.
And you just show up.
You do what you’ve got to do.
Willpower asks, “Can I do this?”
Discipline asks, “Will I do this?”
Identity asks, “Is this who I am?”
And if it’s who you are, it’s not just who you are, it’s what you are.
And if it’s what you are, it’s a part of you and you just go and do it.
You don’t even think about it.
You just get stuck in.
So how do you build your identity?
You build your identity in the dark.
You become a nighttime architect.
And that doesn’t mean that you just work in the nighttime.
It means you work in the darkness when nobody’s watching.
You see, a lot of people come out into the world and they perform.
But what happens behind closed doors when they’re at home on their own, when they’re going out walking in the park, when they’re in the gym early mornings, late at night, whenever it might be, and nobody’s around watching, nobody’s around taking stock, nobody’s around observing how they are?
That’s when the real Jedi goes to work.
And that’s when you really know if you’re built for this.
That’s when you really understand what makes you tick on the inside.
When your alarm goes off at four, five, six o’clock in the morning, whatever it is, it’s a freezing cold morning.
It’s icy.
It’s snowy.
You put your gear on, and you go running.
You put your gear on, and you go to the gym.
You come back.
Most people are still in bed.
You fire up the laptop.
You start writing your book.
You’ve got to go out to a series of meetings all day, but you’re in the process of a deadline to finish your manuscript or some kind of new product that you want to get to market.
And the whole team’s waiting.
And you’re absolutely shattered when you come home.
But it’s a part of who you are.
So, you fire up your laptop, and you complete your manuscript.
Or you get the next chapter done because that’s what you set out to do.
Or you complete the document to get to the team to create the marketing material to launch the product.
You just do it.
Your eyes could be burning watching the laptop.
And some people will say you should really rest.
Yeah, there are times to rest.
Yeah, there are times to take a step back and rejuvenate.
But when you’ve decided to do something because you’re on a deadline, you just do it.
That’s what separates the people that are successful from the people that aren’t.
People talk about balance.
There are different levels of balance.
A lot of people like to have a fifty-fifty balance.
But you’re never going to be completely successful in a fifty-fifty balance.
I would say seventy-eighty, thirty-twenty.
Seventy to eighty percent you’re in the fire.
You’re grafting, creating, moving, expanding.
And then twenty percent rejuvenation and rest.
There’re different levels of balance.
And all of this is forged when nobody’s looking.
Your identity isn’t created when you’re in the view of the public.
It’s when the lights go off.
Nobody’s there.
And it’s just you.
That is where character is built.
That’s where standards are forged.
That’s where your relationship with yourself is tested.
You see, most people break promises to themselves all day long.
They say they’re going to go to the gym and they don’t.
They say they’re going to start the business and they don’t.
They say they’re going to leave the relationship and they don’t.
They say they’re going to heal themselves and they don’t.
Every time you break a promise to yourself, you weaken the relationship with yourself.
You weaken trust.
And if you can’t trust yourself, how can anyone else trust you?
How can the universe trust you with greater responsibility?
How can life trust you with more abundance, more opportunity, more growth?
Trust is built one promise at a time.
One action at a time.
One decision at a time.
And every single day you’re either reinforcing the identity of the person you want to become or you’re reinforcing the identity of the person you’re trying to leave behind.
There is no middle ground.
People think there is.
There isn’t.
You’re either moving forwards or you’re moving backwards.
You might be moving forwards quickly.
You might be moving forwards slowly.
But you’re either moving forwards or you’re moving backwards.
And the beautiful thing is this.
Every single moment gives you the opportunity to make a new decision.
Maybe you’ve dropped the ball.
Maybe you’ve been lazy.
Maybe you’ve not shown up.
Maybe you’ve made excuses.
Maybe you’ve blamed everybody else for what’s going on in your life.
That’s okay.
But from this moment onwards, you can make a different choice.
You can draw a line in the sand.
You can say, “No more.”
No more excuses.
No more blame.
No more waiting.
No more hoping.
No more wishing.
I’m going to take responsibility.
I’m going to own this.
I’m going to show up.
Because radical ownership changes everything.
The moment you stop blaming other people, the government, your parents, your partner, your boss, your childhood, your circumstances, and you start taking full responsibility, your power comes back.
Because if it’s somebody else’s fault, then they have the power.
But if it’s your responsibility, then you have the power.
And that’s where freedom lives.
Freedom doesn’t live in blaming people.
Freedom lives in ownership.
Full ownership.
Extreme ownership.
And when you operate from that place, your whole reality starts to shift.
You stop waiting for permission.
You stop looking for validation.
You stop needing everybody else’s approval.
You become self-sourced.
You become self-led.
You become dangerous in the most beautiful possible way.
Because now you’re operating from purpose.
Now you’re operating from mission.
Now you’re operating from alignment.
And the universe responds differently to that.
Life responds differently to that.
People respond differently to that.
Because people can feel certainty.
People can feel conviction.
People can feel when somebody knows who they are.
And the world desperately needs more people who know who they are.
Not because they’re arrogant.
Not because they think they’re better than anybody else.
But because they know what they’re here to do.
And they refuse to compromise on it.
So ask yourself this question.
Who do I need to become to achieve the goals that I say I want?
Not what do I need to do.
Who do I need to become?
What standards do I need to live by?
What habits do I need to embody?
What promises do I need to keep?
What excuses do I need to let go of?
What version of myself do I need to leave behind?
And then make a decision.
A real decision.
Not a maybe.
Not a I’ll start next week.
Not a I’ll start next month.
A decision.
Because once a real decision is made, the path starts to reveal itself.
The opportunities start to appear.
The resources start to show up.
The right people start to come into your life.
But it all starts with the decision.
And then the action.
Not tomorrow.
Not next week.
Now.
Wherever you are on the planet, go out into the world and be all that you can be.
Raise your standards.
Hold yourself to a higher level.
Love yourself enough to become the greatest version of yourself.
Not for your ego.
Not to prove anything to anybody else.
But because that’s why you came here.
To grow.
To expand.
To evolve.
To become everything that you’re capable of becoming.
I love you so much.
ONE LOVE. ONE HEART. ONE HUMAN FAMILY. PEACE OUT, BEAUTIFUL SOUL
